The Sahara Legacy

Author: Ernest Dempsey

The Saharan Legacy is the fourth or fifth of Ernest Dempsey’s books I have read. He is a prolific author, who always manages to find the next plot to write about.

The Sean Wyatt series is entertaining and keeps the pace up. I do enjoy the archaeological aspect of the story and the accuracy is always spot on.

In this novel, Sean and Schultze are thrown into a fast-paced action-packed trip across North Africa. The story starts when Sean is just a kid and then takes us on a rollercoaster trip to fulfil a lost dream of his parents.

As usual in these thrillers, Sean is a bit weary of his old life, but he can’t stop being thrown back to his days as a secret agent for Axis, a shadowy alphabet agency that works behind the scenes to keep us all safe. While Schultze has the brains to figure out what is happening and where to go next.

The Saharan Legacy kept me interested throughout the book as the team keeps on the move and are always chasing the next lead. I do like the aspect that they do not always win every battle on the way to win the war. At times the team are at a loss for what to do next. I enjoyed Adriana’s character and look forward to hearing more about her in future books.

With such a long series you are never quite sure who is going to die and who is going to be saved. Ernest is good at keeping the reader on their toes with a surprise at every turn of the page.

I have lived in Africa for many years and do enjoy it when authors come to my neck of the woods and write a good compelling thriller. Ernest is great at his research, which is not always seen in some of these thrillers, and he makes sure the areas and descriptions of the people and places are accurate. As a denizen of Africa, I would like to see a little more research into the food they are likely to get and access to clothes fuel, etc. It is a different world here and chips are not a thing! I know I am being picky, but when a character does something that is quite clear to me not possible in the situation then I do have to lift my head, and it stops the enjoyment of the book.

But that being said the story kept me occupied and I finished The Saharan Legacy in three days so it must have held my attention.

Overall, I would recommend this series to any aficionado of thrillers especially if you enjoy the African twist which I very much do. The storyline is coherent and well thought out with a great plot line and an exciting crescendo at the end.
